Case Studies:
Problem: Mary is turning 65 soon, still working, and being offered health insurance through her employer. Her personal contribution is $405 per month. She felt that it was too much.
Solution: Switching her from an employer health insurance plan to Original Medicare + Medicare Supplement + Medicare Drug plan will cost her $286 per month. She will now save over $1400 annually.
Problem: Valerie is 66 years old, still working and her 63-year-old husband was laid off. She had health insurance coverage through her husband. They were both offered Cobra health insurance. Valerie’s cost would be $620 per month. That was not an expense they were prepared for.
Solution: Since Valerie is 66 she is eligible for Medicare. She will opt-out of Cobra and will sign up for a zero monthly premium Medicare Advantage plan which includes drug coverage at no additional cost. She will need to purchase Medicare Part B and that will cost her $144.60 per month. This was a much more affordable option for her. She will now save over $5700 annually.

Does Medicare cover all of my health care costs?
Medicare covers some of your health care bills, but not all. Depending on the plan you select, you may have to share in the costs by paying premiums, deductibles, copayments and coinsurance. The amount of some of these payments varies from year to year. Most people who qualify for Medicare do not pay a monthly premium for Part A, but pay premiums for Part B and Part D or a Medicare Advantage plan.
Medicare Man Update
First and foremost I want to share that I am grateful for the opportunity to meet and communicate with the professionals in my LinkedIn network. More often than not, I gain insight and wisdom from those I have the privilege to talk to. Like many of you, I am doing my best to embrace this new normal that we are living in. I’m also challenging myself to step out of my comfort zone in an effort to make new professional friends which leads to helping clients when they need it most. A major contributor to my professional growth this year has been harnessing and leveraging technology in a way that suits my strength; which is to “patiently” educate. I used to walk around with a Super-Man mentality believing I had to have all the answers for my clients. Luckily, after being humbled so many times it finally clicked. We don’t have to be Super Man or Super Woman. We can do better by creating a Super Team. This is where the magic happens not only for ourselves in forging quality professional relationships but for our clients. They win when we work together on their behalf.
